This VCS project, which is also registered under the CDM (also offered as an I-REC), is a 6.6 MW small, grid-connected run-of-river hydropower plant that generates zero-emissions renewable electricity for the national grid of Uganda. The project generates approximately 30,000 MWh of electricity annually, representing roughly 20,000 tonnes of emissions reductions. The project is located on Ishasha River, 500 metres below the border of Bwindi Forest National Park, in Karima sub county, Kanungu District of Western Uganda.
